Having a choice doesn't always make it easier.
This is my 1970 Dodge Charger, and I am selling it. It was built in September 1969, which makes it a pretty early example. This one was originally ordered with only four options: a 318 V8, an A904 TorqueFlite transmission, an AM radio, and power steering. It spent the next 33 years being a daily driver and a project car for an unknown number of people. I've owned it since 1990. It was my daily driver for several years before I finally put it away to fix up later. Each year I figured I'd have the time and money next year.

Well finally this year I had both time and money, and I still didn't start working on the car. That's when I realized I was clinging to the past; I was never really going to fix it up. I can't stand to let it rot anymore, so now it's available for someone else who will take better care of it than I did.

As you'll see from the photos, this Charger is complete, it just needs a restoration. It runs and drives, and it has license plates and insurance. I drive it about once a month or so. But it does need a full restoration. The engine is tired (it dynoed at 148 rear-wheel horsepower two years ago) and the body needs its rust removed before it gets worse. But all the pieces are here -- it's just a matter of refurbishing everything.

The car is sold now, but I've left the photos up as a tribute to my old friend.

Trunk -- note that I still have the jack & spare hardware

Trunk -- surface rust hiding under the carpet

Rust in corner of rear window

Bodyfill, age unknown, near gas cap

Rust in other corner of rear window

Cracking in the fill panel betwen window and trunk lid

Some rust creeping in along trim pieces, not too severe yet

The worst rust, left-rear quarter just before wheel opening

Next-worst spot, left-rear qurarter just after wheel opening

Some more bubbling in that general area just after wheel opening

Front fenders are in pretty good shape mostly

Front-right got crunched many years ago, valance panel trashed & fender banged up

Right front fender shows a little bubbling

Right rear quarter is decent, but missing a light

Carpets are goners but floorpans are excellent

Dashboard is very good -- just needs a bit of paint here and there

More good dashboard

Seats need new covers

Parcel shelf suffers from dry rot

Headliner is ripped along the seam, plus one hole from a foot many years ago

Passenger door panel very nice -- that's a magnet, not a sticker

Driver door panel just needs a bit of paint

New pictures, as of May 2003 by request:

Trunk floor surface rust -- doesn't go through

Original bumper jack still there! Inside of quarters good too

Carpets shot, floorboards good

Driver side footwell, carpet better but still not good

Back seat carpet still good (plus original crowbar too!)

Gap in headliner (if you were really dedicated you could probably disassemble, repair original material, and reassemble... but that'd be nuts)

Typical headliner in this car

The worst spot in the headliner, IMO

Most of the back seats are quite good (some dry rot along top, see earlier photo)

Front seats ripped along the seams in several places
